On July 1 of this year, St. Luke Catholic School celebrated 3 years under its new name.  Formerly Southington Catholic School, ”We are still the same school, with the same great campus and dedicated staff, “said Joan Tortora, Advancement Director at St. Luke.

In 2023, St. Luke became a STREAM School, being given the prestigious curriculum afforded to only four schools in the Archdiocease of Hartford. Laura Kelly, the school’s STREAM Coordinator, elaborates on the program: “A STREAM school is one whose educational philosophy involves combining the following subject areas (science, technology, religion, engineering, arts, math) into real world and relevant experiences for all students. 

The school welcomes families with children from Pre-K 3 through Grade 8, featuring modest class sizes for more individual attention. Parents looking for a smaller school with a family atmosphere should come and tour St. Luke. Students of all faiths are welcome to attend. “Though it is a faith-based education, we are truly teaching students to be good, solid moral citizens who can make good decisions,” Principal Patrick Hergott said. The school administration works to keep the tuition affordable, but tuition assistance and scholarships are also available.

St. Luke’s teaching staff works to provide a stellar learning experience and lifelong skills.  They work together to ensure that the curriculum provides everything a student needs.  Teachers are available for help after school and keep close contact with parents.  The middle school program boasts a rigorous curriculum for high school preparation.

The school campus is large and well-equipped and safe, with security cameras and on-campus monitors. There is a full-size gym, a cafeteria, a state-of-the-art Science Lab, a Music room and a separate Art room and a library with a Resource teacher. Band is an option for grades 4 and up.  Spanish is taught beginning in Kindergarten.

There is a fully staffed after care program for all.  Students can also join Finance Club, Book Club, Drama Club, Create Club, Chorus and, of course, Basketball.  There is also a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society at St. Luke.

A strong Home School Association allows parents to participate in many projects throughout the year.  Volunteering at the school is a wonderful way for parents to demonstrate a willingness to serve others and adds to the family atmosphere.
