OUR STUDENTS VISITED THE CAPITOL!
Students in grades K-5 took a field trip to the CT Old State House and the Capitol! They learned about civics, branches of government, and some history of Hartford! They met with State Rep. Chris Poulos and House of Representatives member Gale Mastrofrancesco, along with Senate Minority Leader Stephen Harding. Rep. Poulos commented: “We had the pleasure of meeting them in the House Chamber, sharing our thoughts on public service, and discussing the legislative process. It was great to answer their questions and offer a behind-the-scenes look at democracy in action. I’m always impressed by our students’ engagement in civic education and their desire to better understand how government works.”
St. Luke Students Practice the Corporal Works of Mercy
Our students put faith into action by living out the Works of Mercy. Through generosity and compassion, they collected food for our local food pantry helping care for those in need in our community. We are so proud of our students for answering Christ's call to love and serve others. "For I was hungry and you gave me food." - Matthew 25:35. Thank you to our families for supporting this meaningful act of service!

New Archbishop Visits St. Luke Catholic School In Southington
Earlier this month, St. Luke Catholic School welcomed new Diocese of Hartford Archbishop Christopher Coyne, who celebrated Mass and toured the site.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A local Catholic school recently had a visit from a prominent church official, who toured the site and saw what the Southington school had to offer. St. Luke Catholic School earlier this month hosted the Hartford Archdiocese’s newly-appointed Archbishop Christopher Coyne on March 1. The visit signifies the commitment Coyne has made to growing the church through Catholic education. Coyne has kicked off his 2024 by visiting schools throughout the Archdiocese.
By visiting St. Luke Catholic School, he was able to learn more about how the school has integrated STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts and Math) throughout the curriculum and the other programs the school offers.
The visit coincided with a special awards ceremony that followed this significant Mass with the Archbishop.
Thirteen St. Luke Catholic School students were recognized with a Heart of Mary Award for exhibiting kindness and caring for their classmates and teachers throughout February.
“These awards make our students and their families stand out,” said Jim Messina, principal at St. Luke Catholic School. “Our school encourages students to embody Catholic values and service to others. Our goal is to develop students with creative minds, compassionate hearts and the courage to act on their beliefs. It is an honor to lead these students and a thrill for us to welcome Archbishop Coyne.”
Coyne enjoyed a tour of the school to learn about the STREAM academic programs and extracurricular activities, stopping in classrooms to admire student work, and even taking back cards and letters from all the students in pre-kindergarten through middle school.
In addition to the students, St. Luke gathered with staff, school families, and school board members, as well as members of the St. Luke Parish, Rosary Group, Knights of Columbus, and St. Luke Parish’s Ladies Guild and Men's Club, who all helped welcome the Archbishop at the reception following Mass.
"We are so blessed to have these representatives of St. Luke Catholic School and our parish community join us today to provide a warm welcome, Archbishop Coyne," said Messina.

STREAM at St. Luke Catholic School
Our students actively engage in STREAM projects across multiple grade levels to problem solve and design solutions to real world problems, using the Engineering Design Process. Students are currently working in multi-grade level groups on “STREAM Academy” days to develop portable farm kits for refugees. They have gone through the identification of the problem, research, design, and have developed a variety of prototypes. This has been an engaging process allowing students to develop leadership and cooperative skills.
